Tears Rain Down From the Sky
It’s been kind of an odd 24 hours or so. Not in a “strange things are happenin’ to me” kind of way. Just in a way where my brain kind of turns to mush and I pretty much lay on the couch and let the world exist and try not to be in it.
That doesn’t really make any sense, but it’s pretty much how I feel.
So anyway, I decided to give Trivium’s new album a full listen through. I know it came out in September. I know, I know. I’ve bought their last two albums like the week and/or day it came out. But The Crusade was so….meh. I wasn’t impressed with the samples of the new album I heard as they. My new car didn’t have an iPod hook-up in it and I wasn’t gonna go out and buy it without listening to it and deciding I liked it first. I never got around to burning it. So, I put in my iPod connecting stereo a couple weeks ago and a couple days ago I thought to myself, “You know, Trivium’s new album got really good reviews. I should listen to it again.”
Well, it was a pleasurable experience.
While I find Matt Heafy’s vocals a little…I don’t know…out of place?, I can get passed it and really enjoy the music and the album itself. It’s not always out-of-place sounding. I suppose I am not used to hearing a clean baritone vocal over heavy music. If you hear clean vocals in metal, usually it’s a tenor voice. Maybe I just find them a bit too clean for me. Either way, it’s still a darn good album. Some highlights are “Kirisute Gomen,” “Down from the Sky” and “Insurrection.” ESPECIALLY “Insurrection.” The opening riff is absolutely brutal.
Shogun seems to be the natural progression for Trivium to have gone. After uh…toning it down a bit for The Crusade , I’m glad to see they brought it back up a notch.
Til tomorrow.
